Broxmouth Courtyard wedding videographer
East Lothian countryside, your favourite people and a dance floor that deserves its own film.
I’m Joe Carter, a wedding videographer based in Musselburgh. Broxmouth Courtyard, near Dunbar, is one of my favourite places to film. I’ve been back for several weddings, and the combination of the courtyard, the grounds and the celebrations inside gives each day plenty of its own character.
Here’s a look at real weddings I’ve filmed here, how I approach the day, and a few practical ideas for making room to enjoy it all.

A courtyard wedding near Dunbar
Broxmouth Courtyard sits within Broxmouth Park Estate in East Lothian. The restored stable buildings give it plenty of character, with the Stables Gallery for ceremonies and the Courtyard Dining Hall for the wedding breakfast. There’s also accommodation on the estate if you’re planning a celebration with people staying nearby.
For a wedding film, I like having different spaces close together. There’s the anticipation before the ceremony, everyone catching up afterwards, and then the evening gathering pace. Those changes in energy help tell the story without needing to turn your day into a series of staged scenes.

How I film a Broxmouth wedding
My style is candid and documentary led. I’m there to notice what’s happening: a quick exchange before the vows, someone trying very hard not to cry, and the friends who suddenly become professional dancers after dinner.
I won’t ask you to repeat moments for the camera. If you take a little walk with your photographer, I can capture that naturally too, without adding another set of poses. The aim is for you to enjoy your wedding and have a film that feels like being there again.
I work solo, so you’ll speak directly to me throughout. I’m a BAFTA-nominated filmmaker, based here in East Lothian, and I’m always happy to talk through what you want from your film before you book.
Three things to think about when planning
Give the drinks reception some breathing room. It’s often the first chance to relax after the ceremony. Allow time for the hugs, conversations and little moments between the scheduled parts of the day.
Keep outdoor plans flexible. We can talk with your photographer about a short wander in the grounds if that suits you. Weather and daylight will shape the options, so a flexible plan is more useful than a long list of must-have shots.
Share the important bits. Tell me about any readings, surprises or people you particularly want included. I can plan for them while leaving space for the lovely things nobody could have predicted.
Questions about your Broxmouth wedding film
Have you filmed at Broxmouth Courtyard before?
Yes, several times. The real wedding films linked here give you examples of my work at the venue, with different couples and celebrations.
What happens if it rains?
We work with the conditions and the spaces available on the day. There’s plenty of your story happening indoors, and going outside for couple footage is always something we discuss rather than a requirement.
Can you cover morning preparations and the evening?
We’ll agree your coverage before you book. Send me your date and outline plans, and we can choose the package and any extras that suit your day. See my wedding film packages.
Who should we ask about venue hire and accommodation?
The Broxmouth team can confirm current arrangements, prices and availability. Visit the official Broxmouth Courtyard wedding website for venue enquiries.
