Carmen & Ruaridh’s Wedding at Restoration Yard, Dalkeith Country Park

I’ve walked around Dalkeith Country Park countless times with my dog, so it was a bit strange – and very nice – to finally find myself there with a camera bag rather than a dog lead!

Carmen and Ruaridh got married at Restoration Yard in Dalkeith Country Park on a blazing Friday in July, and it was my first time filming a wedding at the venue.

Having spent plenty of time in the park over the years, I already knew there were some beautiful places to explore, but filming a wedding at Restoration Yard gave me a completely different view of the place.

A Restoration Yard wedding in the summer

The old Orangery is a brilliant setting for a wedding. It has loads of character and made a fantastic backdrop for Carmen and Ruaridh’s ceremony.

Once the ceremony was over, the surrounding woodland gave us plenty of options for photographs and video. The ancient trees and paths around Restoration Yard have a really natural feel to them, and they work particularly well for couples who don't want their wedding video to be full of obviously posed shots.

As an Edinburgh wedding videographer, I’m always looking for places where I can let couples get on with enjoying their day while I quietly capture what's happening around them. Restoration Yard and the wider Dalkeith Country Park are ideal for that.

A brilliant crowd

And, as is often the case, it was the people who really made the day.

Carmen and Ruaridh had a great crowd with them, with several generations of family and friends all together. There was plenty of laughing, plenty of chatting and, as the day went on, plenty of partying.

I particularly like weddings where you get that mix of generations. There's something great about seeing everyone come together for the same reason, and it gives you loads of little moments to capture throughout the day.

Filming weddings at Restoration Yard

Having filmed weddings at venues across Edinburgh, East Lothian and Central Scotland, I’m always pleased to discover somewhere new.

Restoration Yard was definitely somewhere I’d been looking forward to filming, particularly because I know Dalkeith Country Park so well. The Orangery, woodland and wider grounds give you lots of variety without having to spend the day travelling between different locations.

If you're planning a Restoration Yard wedding, it's also a great option if you want somewhere that feels a little removed from Edinburgh while still being very easy to get to.

And after finally getting the chance to film there, I’m hoping Carmen and Ruaridh won't be my last Restoration Yard wedding!

If you're looking for a wedding videographer for Restoration Yard, Dalkeith Country Park or elsewhere in Edinburgh and Central Scotland, I'd love to hear from you.

I film weddings in a relaxed, documentary style, concentrating on the real moments of the day rather than making couples spend hours posing for the camera.
