Watch Hannah & David’s John Muir Tipis wedding film
Rather than me waffling on about how good this place looks, here's Hannah and David's highlights film. Much better to see it for yourself.
John Muir Tipis is one of those venues where there's always something worth pointing a camera at. Hannah and David had their ceremony outside, surrounded by trees, before everyone headed back to the tipis for the rest of the day. A pretty great setting for a wedding — and a very easy place for me to get carried away filming.
Not a bad way to start married life.
I love the bit just after a ceremony when everyone's properly relaxed and the congratulations start flying. Hannah and David got a fantastic welcome from their guests, and there were plenty of moments I was glad I had the camera rolling for.
The gang, out in force
There's loads to film around John Muir Tipis without having to venture very far. We managed to get some lovely footage in the woodland, then it was straight back to the guests and whatever was happening next. That's my sort of wedding day — plenty going on, without turning it into a photo shoot.
And Hannah and David were clearly having a brilliant time. There are a few shots in the film where you can practically hear them laughing, even with the sound off. By the evening, the dancing was well underway. I wasn't short of things to film.
Woodland, beaches and alpacas
And I haven't even mentioned the alpacas yet. Not every wedding venue comes with those. Add in the woodland and the beach nearby and it's a pretty special spot. I much prefer letting people get on with enjoying themselves rather than constantly asking them to do things for the camera, and this venue really suits that way of working.
Anyway, have a watch of Hannah and David's film above. If you're getting married at John Muir Tipis and fancy something similar, give me a shout.
Why John Muir Tipis works so well for a wedding
You've got woodland, the beach nearby and the tipis themselves, so there's loads to work with. And I don't have to whisk the couple away for half an hour every time I want a nice shot. Always a bonus. It's a great place for a relaxed wedding, and all those different little corners give the film a bit of variety too.
And, of course, there are the alpacas. I can't pretend that's something I get to say about many of the weddings I film.
Planning a wedding at John Muir Tipis?
If you're considering John Muir Tipis for your own wedding, it's worth knowing that the venue says it can seat up to 150 guests, offers indoor and outdoor ceremony options, and allows you to choose your own suppliers. There's an indoor option too, should the Scottish weather decide to get involved. Do check the details with John Muir Tipis directly, as arrangements can change.

I'm based just down the road in East Lothian and film weddings across Edinburgh and Scotland. My approach is pretty simple: keep out of the way, let everyone enjoy themselves and catch the good stuff as it happens.
